Ten Tire Tips

Tire safety is often forgotten and overlooked...so, Indy Quick Lane has put together this list to educate all drivers of new and used cars about tire maintenance.

1.  Check the pressure of each tire at least once a month to prevent problems resulting from underinflation.

2.  Rotate your tires.  Based on your owner's manual or as advised by a service technician, tires should be rotated regularly.  This keeps the tire tread even and extends their lifetime.

3.  Check for wear and tear.  If you see cracks or buldges, you should take the tires in for inspection right away.

4.  Schedule consistent alignment appointments.  This will maintain the steering and suspension on your vehicle, which in turn, prevents rapid and uneven tire wear.

5.  Maintain balance.  You will be able to tell if your tires are out of balance if there is a severe thumping, usually most noticable at higher speeds.

6.  Don't overload your tires.  See the code on the tire sidewall for the magic number.

7.  Don't procrastinate replacing your tires.  If you are not sure when it is time to replace your vehicle's tires, call a service provider, like Quick Lane, for advice.

8.  Avoid overheating your tires.  Park in the shade, if possible, during warmer months.  The higher the heat exposure to tires, the shorter their lifespan.

9.  Choose the right tires for your enviornment.  There are "all season" tires available at most shops.  This is another area where you can seek advice if you are unsure.

10.  Match pairs and install complete sets.  By using different tires on the left and right sides, you may tremendously upset the handling and balance of a vehicle-not to mention its ABS operation. That said, it is vital that tires be installed in front or rear pairs, or complete sets.

If you have tire questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Quick Lane at 317.733.0410.  We would be more than happy to insure your tires are the safest they can be for you and your family.
